Marry Him

Did you ever buy a book for the sole purpose of trashing it on your blog? No?

That’s sort of what I want to do with this.

Actually, what I more want to do is see if Gottlieb is trying to say what I think she’s trying to say, which is, maybe, Don’t marry for lust and infatuation; marry for compatibility and love. She’s using incendiary language (“Settle” for “Mr. Good Enough”), doubtless because it sells. But I wonder, too: Does she know the difference between infatuation and love? I kind of have to know.

Not least because Gottlieb is the friend of a friend. And because she once interviewed me for a job. Which I turned down. At a company she later wrote a book about.

Gottlieb has already been trashed by Bitch magazine (heart heart heart) for saying offensive and misogynistic things about how all women want to be married with children (puh). So maybe Marry Him is as bad as it looks. But I think, or maybe I just hope, that she’s trying to say that her mistake in romance was to seek Mr. HollywoodSexyBonesJerk-a-Doodle instead of Mr. AdorableFunnyKindHusband.

Probably not worth spending $20 to find out. But I might.

In other news, in a search for Marry Him on Powells.com, I found this. Can this be a book? And not a . . . greeting card?

  1. OMG, you have to review that book. It sounds hilarious. But I would never want to read it myself. Better that you do it.

Just as Tyra does for her model-contestants, I will sacrifice myself for you. I just bought the book! Without free shipping, even!
